Guest blog by Mia from Sweet Serenity & Co ~ Find your serenity
I understand the concept of getting lost in our work. I have grown up with anxiety. I let everything around me dictate my well being. I let stress take a grasp at my happiness. I would stretch myself to please others and realize that I had nothing left to give for myself.
Everyone else left work at 5 pm, and my physical body left work, but my mind created a home right in the middle of my workload. I would have a hard time going to sleep because I was already thinking about what I was going to do the next day. Due to all of the stress this year, I had gotten sick more times than I have ever had in all the 23 years of my life. I realized I need to make a change.
It is okay for us to be very passionate about our dreams. However, it is also okay to take a break here and there. It is okay to step away for a while to recharge and rejuvenate. This will allow creativity to flow and it will give you the strength to give your all to support your clients!
Here are a few things I do to find my Ultimate Serenity and you should do too!
Learn to embrace the current season of your life. My biggest problem was always worrying about the future. When you are worried about the future, you start to get anxious about the unknown. When you worry about the past, you start to dwell on the negative events that happened or the wrong decisions you made. When you are embracing the present, you solely focus on what is happening at that exact moment. This gives room to allow you embrace the positive things that you accomplished or just clear your mind.
Take a nice walk. You don’t need to take a huge hike or anything, you can just walk around your neighborhood for about 10 to 15 min. Get some nice fresh air. Bring along your favorite drink (mine are smoothies!) and enjoy the scenery.
Read a favorite book. If you are starting to become a little doubtful of yourself or need a little motivation, read a motivational book! I just got done reading “Girl Code: Unlocking the Secrets to Success, Sanity, and Happiness for the Female Entrepreneur” by Cara Alwill Leyba. It is a phenomenal book. I usually read this when I start to become doubtful of being successful and overall when I am losing faith in myself.
What a movie/show. I love to do this with my husband every night. We put away all of our work/school work and pick something to watch on Hulu or Netflix. Sometimes we also go see a movie at a theater when new movies come out. This is another way to take a step away from all of the work you have to do and focus on something that could uplift your spirits.
Pour a glass of wine. I love wine! My favorite is Moscato. This is my go-to when I am having a very stressful day. Drink your favorite drink – it does not have to be wine. It can be hot chocolate, tea, even champagne. Whichever you choose, focus on the little details of the drink, the way it tastes, the way it smells. This will help detour your mind from thinking so much of your work and soon, you will start to relax.
These are just a few things that I love to do to take a break from all of the crazy things that come with running a business. I hope your day is filled with inspiration and good vibes. What do you do to find your own serenity?
